Understand the difference
The shape of a tent's door determines how people and equipment move into the sleeping space. Curved D-shaped openings and vertical entry panels can both work well. The usable height, location under the rainfly and available vestibule space matter more than a sketch.
What the first option offers
A D-shaped zip can create a broad opening, sometimes with a flap that rolls out of the way. The curved zipper is relatively long and can catch loose fabric if operated carelessly. Look for a reliable place to secure the opened panel.

Trade-offs of the alternative
A vertical zipper can feel straightforward and may be convenient on tents with taller sidewalls. Some openings are still narrow at the shoulder or require ducking deeply. Measure or inspect actual entry dimensions rather than assuming a straight zipper means easy access.
Practical fit and compatibility
Rain management is important. A shelter's outer fly and vestibule should limit dripping into the inner sleeping area when the door opens. No door shape can compensate for a poorly pitched shelter in an area where water pools.
Safety and upkeep
Zipper construction and care matter over time. Dirt and small gravel can make an entrance difficult to open, especially when someone pulls against tensioned fabric. Keep closures clear and follow the manufacturer's maintenance recommendations.
Making a sensible purchase
Choose an entry that allows comfortable movement with the normal sleeping pad and clothing in place. Evaluate weather coverage, ventilation and how quickly the shelter can be exited before deciding that one zipper shape is inherently better.
Before relying on the setup
Pitch the exact tent in a safe familiar setting before camping. Enter and leave it with your normal outer layer, then check whether a backpack or boots can be stored without blocking the exit. Try opening and closing the door after dark with a headlamp. A good design should be simple to use without placing hands or equipment onto wet sleeping fabric. Never operate a fuel stove inside an unsafe enclosed tent area.
