Godox TT350 vs TT685II: Compact Flash or More Bounce Flexibility?

Quick verdict

Choose the original TT350 when keeping a small camera kit light is the priority and its controls and output cover your pictures. Choose TT685II when the larger unit’s wider head movement and feature set are worth carrying. This guide uses the Canon TT350C and TT685II C manuals for the numerical comparison. Other camera-system versions need their own compatibility checks.

Match the system before comparing features

Godox sells camera-specific versions, and a shared brand name does not make their hot shoes and TTL communication interchangeable. Confirm your exact camera body, supported shooting mode and any required adapter before ordering. The original TT350 here is also distinct from TT350II. A similarly named newer listing should be checked on its own specifications and regional availability rather than silently substituted.

The size and battery trade-off

Godox lists TT350C at 200g without batteries and TT685II C at 405g without batteries. TT350C uses two AA cells; TT685II C uses four. That difference is noticeable in a kit built around a small body and lens. Include the batteries and a spare set when comparing what you carry, rather than comparing one flash loaded with batteries against the other without them.

Bounce direction can decide the purchase

The manuals give TT350C up to 270 degrees of horizontal rotation and TT685II C up to 330 degrees. Their vertical movement also differs: up to 90 degrees versus 120 degrees. More movement can make it easier to aim toward a suitable wall or ceiling while holding the camera in different orientations. It is worth more to someone who bounces regularly than to someone who mostly uses direct fill.

Do not divide the headline guide numbers

The published maximum guide numbers use different zoom settings: TT350C’s is quoted at 105mm coverage, TT685II C’s at 200mm. Dividing those numbers does not establish a clean brightness advantage at the same coverage. For a demanding bounce task, look for comparable conditions or a practical trial. A distant dark ceiling may be a poor bounce surface regardless of which flash you choose.

When the smaller flash is enough

Keep or buy TT350 when it gives the exposure and shooting pace you need without making the camera awkward to hold. For an occasional nearby portrait or modest fill, carrying less may be the useful benefit. If photographs look harsh, changing direction or the effective light-source size can matter more than replacing the flash. A tiny cap alone should not be confused with a large soft source.

When to choose a different upgrade

For long sequences, compare battery logistics and the relevant flash’s thermal guidance, rather than assuming a larger AA unit can fire continuously without limits. If your recurring problem is recharging or changing cells, a suitable lithium-powered alternative may address it more directly. For off-camera work, also include the correct transmitter, support and modifier in the budget. Neither purchase automatically supplies that complete setup.

Final buying decision

TT350 is the focused choice when compactness solves your problem and the original model is available for your camera system. TT685II is worth considering when its extra head movement and broader capability remove limits you actually encounter. Compare complete kit prices after confirming the version. We have not measured comparative flash output, recycle performance or thermal endurance, so the recommendation rests on documented features and practical buying priorities.
