What the choice changes
Microphones capture most effectively along directions determined by their physical and acoustic design. A front-address microphone is typically spoken into from the end, while a side-address model uses a different operating face. A similar-looking grille does not mean both microphones should be aimed identically.
Advantages of the first option
End-address microphones may be convenient when mounted along a desk boom pointing toward a narrator. The actual polar pattern and speaking distance still matter. Speaking into a rear or off-axis side can reduce clarity or change frequency balance.

Alternative strengths and limits
Side-address studio microphones often place the intended pickup area on a marked face. Correct orientation is important; some have switches or a logo indicating the front. Do not infer pickup direction solely from the microphone's cylinder shape.
Compatibility and setup
Place a pop filter between the speaker and capsule when appropriate. Keep the microphone far enough from the keyboard and desk supports to limit bumps and noise. The best position avoids mouth blasts while maintaining an intelligible natural voice.
Care and safe use
Cardioid, omnidirectional and other pickup patterns describe different sensitivity around a microphone. Address orientation and pickup pattern are related but not identical. Consult the particular model's manual for correct placement and supported recording mode.
What to buy
Choose the mounting arrangement that lets the microphone point along its intended speaking axis while remaining stable. Recording gain, room noise and microphone distance often improve the result more than replacing a working microphone with another housing style.
A final practical check
Before ordering, check the exact maker's dimensions, fit guidance and current model information. Test the selected item with your existing equipment where possible, and keep safety instructions and manufacturer limitations in mind. An inexpensive accessory that works consistently can be better than a complicated alternative with features you will rarely use.
Confirm the recording axis
Before speaking, inspect the microphone's own orientation markings or manual. An incorrectly aimed microphone can sound distant even when the recorder shows activity, so make a short monitoring test before any important narration.
