Insta360 Luna Ultra vs DJI Osmo Pocket 4P: Which One Would I Choose?

The Insta360 Luna Ultra and DJI Osmo Pocket 4P are two of the most exciting pocket cameras available—but they approach filmmaking differently.

I’ve used the DJI Pocket 3 and have also spent time with Insta360 cameras, including the X4 and X5. I haven’t personally tested these two new models yet, so this comparison is based on their official specifications and my experience with both camera systems.

Image Quality

The Luna Ultra immediately stands out with its 1-inch 8K sensor, Leica lens and detachable touchscreen. It also provides up to 6× lossless zoom, giving creators plenty of flexibility for travel videos, events and detailed B-roll.

The Pocket 4P tops out at 4K, but resolution isn’t everything. Its 17 stops of dynamic range and D-Log 2 recording should preserve more detail in bright skies and dark shadows.

If you enjoy cropping and reframing your footage, the Luna’s 8K resolution is a major advantage. If you care more about dynamic range and colour grading, the Pocket 4P may produce the more dependable image.

Which Camera Looks Easier to Use?

This is where my experience with the Pocket 3 matters.

DJI made that camera incredibly simple. You could turn it on, start filming and get smooth footage without building a complicated setup. The Pocket 4P appears to continue that formula while adding a useful telephoto lens.

Insta360’s software has always impressed me, though, and the Luna Ultra’s removable screen is genuinely useful. You can position the camera several feet away and still monitor your shot, making it a strong option for solo creators.

Availability in Canada and the United States

Canadian buyers can choose between both cameras, so I’ve included Canadian affiliate-link positions for the Luna Ultra and Pocket 4P.

The situation is different in the United States. At the time of writing, the DJI Pocket 4P is not officially sold through authorized American retailers. Imported versions may appear online, but warranty service and support could be more complicated.

For that reason, I’m only including a U.S. affiliate link for the Insta360 Luna Ultra. For American creators, the Luna is the easiest of these two cameras to purchase with official support.

Which One Would I Choose?

Based on everything available so far, I would lean toward the DJI Pocket 4P—provided it is officially available where you live.

The Luna Ultra is the more adventurous camera. Its 8K recording, powerful zoom and detachable screen offer creative possibilities that DJI doesn’t match.

However, the Pocket 4P looks like the camera I would trust for dependable everyday filming, travel videos and professional creator work. My experience with the Pocket 3 showed me how convenient DJI’s pocket-camera design can be.

For American buyers, my recommendation changes. Since the Pocket 4P isn’t officially available in the United States, the Insta360 Luna Ultra is the clear practical choice.
