Peak Design Capture vs PGYTECH Beetle V2: Which Camera Clip?

Quick verdict

Choose Capture if it fits your strap and integrates cleanly with the Peak Design plates or supports you already use. Consider Beetle Camera Clip V2 when its wider published strap allowance or package value better suits your backpack. For a new buyer, the best starting point is a measurement and a plate check. Neither product is automatically the better purchase because it has the more familiar name.

Measure the actual mounting position

Peak Design lists Capture for straps up to 64mm wide. PGYTECH lists Beetle V2 for straps under 80mm wide and under 20mm thick. Check thickness, seam shape and hardware clearance as well as width, following the selected clip’s fitting instructions. Measure where the clip will actually sit: a wide padded shoulder section can differ from the narrower webbing lower down.

Keep Beetle generations separate

This comparison uses Beetle Camera Clip V2. The original Beetle has different published fit limits, so its older FAQ numbers should not be substituted. Check the product name and the plate in the package photo. Also check the promised dispatch date: a selectable product option with an estimated future availability date is different from an item ready to ship.

Arca-type does not mean every plate fits every clip

Both systems offer plates intended to work with suitable Arca-type tripod clamps. That does not establish that a Peak Design plate locks into a PGYTECH carrying clip, or the reverse. Confirm both connections separately: camera plate to carrying clip, then camera plate to tripod head. A tripod fit that is acceptable while supported on a stand is not proof of a secure camera-carrying connection.

Check the package before calling it cheaper

Both brands offer choices that can leave the plate out. A clip-only price is useful if you already own the correct plate, but it is not a complete first-time setup. Include the plate, any required fastening hardware and a compatible mounting position in the comparison. Paying for an extra plate you do not need is wasteful; buying a clip that cannot hold your existing plate is worse.

A practical fitting test

Mount the clip according to its instructions, attach the intended camera and lens, then check clearance when raising your arm, bending and putting the pack on. Keep the camera supported while learning the release and lock. The real question is whether you can reach it comfortably and verify that it is secured. We have not independently tested either mechanism or rated its retention under impact.

Who should skip this style of carrier

Skip both if you need the camera enclosed against weather, dust or bumps during the walk, or if the loaded camera pulls awkwardly on your chosen strap. A carrying clip makes access convenient but leaves the camera exposed. A padded bag or another carrying arrangement may be better for a heavy long-lens combination. Do not interpret a high static load claim as a comfort rating for your shoulder.

Final buying decision

Buy Capture for a compatible strap and an existing Peak Design plate workflow. Buy Beetle V2 when its documented fit and complete package better match your equipment, after checking delivery timing. Keep a satisfactory clip if a matching plate solves your next requirement. This comparison uses manufacturer fit information and product options; it does not claim hands-on comfort, security or long-term wear testing.
