A memory-card case can prevent cards from scattering around a camera bag, but an organised recording system also helps prevent accidental formatting. Numbered slots and colour labels offer different ways to identify media. Neither method creates a backup of the files.
First option strengths
Numbered positions support a simple log linking each card to a shooting date or camera. This can work well for a repeated filming workflow. A card moved to the wrong slot can create confusion, so maintain a consistent practice for used and unused media.
Where the alternative helps
Colour labels can make blank and recorded cards visually distinct at a glance. However, subtle colours may be difficult to distinguish in poor light. Avoid adhesive material that can peel off and interfere with normal card insertion into a reader or camera.
