📷 DJI Action 5 Review After 6 Months: Still a Powerhouse?

Are you wondering if the DJI Action 5 still holds up after six months of real-world use? As a full-time content creator and tech gear reviewer, I’ve put this camera through just about everything — from snowy Winnipeg streets to late-night b-roll, bike rides, and indoor studio shoots.
Here’s my long-term review of the DJI Action 5 Pro — and why I still consider it one of the best 4K action cameras of 2025.
🛠️ Build Quality & Design – Still Rugged and Reliable
The Action 5 has proven incredibly durable. It’s compact, lightweight (just over 5 oz), and waterproof up to 20m without a case. The dual OLED touchscreens are bright and responsive — even in direct sunlight.
✅ After six months: No cracks. No overheating. No reliability issues. This thing just works — and that matters when you’re out shooting and can’t afford gear drama.
🎥 4K Video – Crisp, Clean, and Consistently Good
The 1/1.3" sensor delivers 4K at 120fps, and it still impresses with sharp detail and accurate color.
From biking footage to slow-mo clips of my cats Arlo & Mongo, the video quality holds up in all lighting. RockSteady 3.0+ keeps it buttery smooth — no gimbal needed.
🌙 Low Light – Surprisingly Capable
For a compact cam, low-light performance is better than expected. DJI’s Super Night Mode actually reduces noise and keeps shadows clean — great for evening vlogs, indoor shots, or winter city footage.
🎯 Not a mirrorless replacement, but top-tier for action cams under $500.
🔊 Audio – Even Better with DJI Mic 2
The onboard mics are fine, but pair it with the DJI Mic 2 for next-level clarity. That’s what I use for talking head shots, gear demos, and outdoor walk-and-talks.
✅ Pro tip: If you're serious about content creation, this combo is hard to beat — clean, warm, and reliable audio.
🔋 Battery Life – Long, Reliable + Built-in Storage
Battery life is impressive — over 2 hours of 4K60 recording in real use. And the camera includes 47GB of internal storage, which has saved my shoot more than once when I forgot an SD card.
✅ Zero crashes. No overheating. Just dependable performance.
🧩 Accessories – Creator-Ready
I’ve used the Action 5 with:
DJI Extension Rod
Helmet mount for POV biking
Tripod for hands-free desk reviews
It integrates well into my YouTube setup with CapCut Pro, Photoshop, and my usual travel rig.
👎 Downsides? A Few Minor Things
Nothing deal-breaking, but here’s what I’d like improved:
Front screen can lag slightly when switching modes
No built-in ND filter (third-party needed)
HDR mode can feel over-processed in mixed light
Still, these are minor trade-offs for what you get in performance.
DJI Action 5 Review After 6 Months: Still a Powerhouse?
🎯 Final Verdict: Is the DJI Action 5 Still Worth It?
Absolutely. The DJI Action 5 Pro is still a powerhouse. After six months of near-daily use, I confidently recommend it to vloggers, travelers, and anyone who wants high-quality, reliable 4K video in a small, rugged form.
It’s become one of my go-to cameras for both blog content and YouTube — and a permanent part of my content creation kit.
